‘The example’: Fraternity honors legacy of Emanuel Nine

Summary

In October 2025, FOX Carolina reported on Alpha Phi Alpha’s tribute to the Emanuel Nine and its recognition of five Upstate leaders for community service. During the fraternity’s South Carolina district conference, the Rev. Stacey D. Mills received the award for faith, alongside honorees recognized for education, political activism, safety and volunteerism.

We are humbled by an honor connected to the courage, grace and enduring example of the Emanuel Nine. For our church, the recognition is also a reminder that faith is expressed through service—by standing with our neighbors, strengthening community institutions and working for a more just and compassionate future.
